Beastie Boys and DRM

Apparently, the new Beastie Boys disc has some pretty nasty DRM on it. I'm waiting to hear from Tom if he has been able to rip it. If he can't, there's no way I'm buying it. Not even from iTMS.

Speaking of DRM, check out the speech (via Lawrence Lessig) that Cory Doctorow gave at Microsoft. Jason Kottke has created an audio version of the speech.

I bought it on iTM for that reason. Interestinly it's the most expensive album I've ever seen there - almost $15.

I should have been more clear. I don't want to buy it at all because I don't think a company that wants to install a virus on my computer is worthy of my $15.

Well the B-boys probably didn't have anything to do with it. Apple didn't have anything to do with it. It's just the label. I figure the only other way I can buy the album that would cut the label out of the equation would be to buy it from the band itself.

Don't worry. The album's not worth buying with or without the copy-protection issue. Easily the disappointment of the year.

I have a copy now. I've only listened to it a couple times. So far, I”m not very impressed.
